1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, you that are highly favored, the Lord is with you: blessed are you among women.

1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for you have found favor with God.

1:31 And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS.

1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.

1:36 And, behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.

                "My Children, Love One Another!"


   This item is not directly from Scripture, but it comes from a
   trusted man of God, St. Jerome, whom God selected to compile the Latin
   Vulgate Bible, which was the authoritative Christian Bible for the
   world for many centuries.

   It is a story about St. John, writer of the Fourth Gospel and the Book
   of Revelation and the letters 1st, 2nd and 3rd John.

   St. Jerome writes that during the last years of St. John's life, when
   he was a very old man, he used always say the same thing to the
   faithful: "My children, love one another!" On one occasion he was
   asked why he insisted on this, to which he replied: "Because it is the
   Lord's commandment, and if you keep just this commandment, it will
   suffice." ("Comm. in Gal.", III, 6, 10).
