Welcome To Your Cellular Phone Ministry

The idea of a Cellular Phone Ministry is this: You get a cellular phone, and you use it aggressively to report automobile accidents and other problems to the proper authorities.

In order to do this effectively, you will need to develop the habit of knowing where you are, in such a way that you can correctly give the location of the problem. For instance, if you report a car wreck, the first thing the police will ask you for is the location. So you need to develop the ability to provide accurate locations. You should carry maps in your car and know how to read them when necessary. You should be able to describe locations in terms of intersections and distances North, East, South or West of an intersection. Also, you should carry a note pad and pen, in case you need to write something down, so you won't make a mistake.

I remember clearly a few years ago coming to the scene of an accident involving a child on the way to school. The child was unconscious on the ground and had been there about fifteen minutes, with no ambulance. (In this place, normal response time to an emergency is about five minutes, Arlington County, Virginia.) Bystanders said that the police had been called immediately after the accident occured.

Turns out the person who called the police gave the wrong location. The ambulance went to the wrong place, found no accident, and returned to the station, empty.

So make sure you are able to give the correct location.

Also, you will need to be able to describe briefly what has happened, in particular how many people are injured, if they need an ambulance, etc.

For the right people, this is a very good little ministry, able to render good service with very little time or cost involved. Very efficient use of resources.
