If You Love God, He Will Love You

         "I love those who love me, and those who seek me
          diligently find me." (Proverbs 8:17 RSV)

How do you demonstrate your love for God?

1. Seek Him, and try to be close to Him. We can do this by reading the Bible and by praying, always with the goal of getting closer to Him. 

            "Draw near to God and he will draw near to you."
             (James 4:7 RSV)

2. Worship Him, and tell Him directly that you love Him. 

       
      "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will
       worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks
       to worship him." (John 4:23 RSV)
3. Keep His commandments; do what He tells you to do. 
    "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."
     (John 14:15 RSV)

God counts our love for others as love for Himself. 

              "And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as
               you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you
               did it to me.'" (Matthew 25:40 RSV)

It is no good to claim you love God if you do not also love your fellow man. 

      "If any one says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a
       liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen,
       cannot love God whom he has not seen." (1 John 4:20 RSV)
