MATTHEW 6:31-33 (KJV)
31
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for
your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all
these things.
33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto
you.
God will fill these legitimate needs of the flesh, just as He fulfils
all of our other needs.
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in
glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19 KJV)
Nobody would question our need to urinate and defecate.
The only restriction would be to do these things "decently and
in order."
"Let all things be done decently and in order."
(1 Corinthians 14:40 KJV)
Most of us also have legitmate need for sexual release, given to us
by God and acceptable to Him. As with all of our needs, He will find
a way to supply them for us. His preferred way for us to have sex is
within the context of marriage, one man with one woman.
"Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his
own wife, and let every woman have her own husband."
(1 Corinthians 7:2 KJV)
However, if married sex is somehow not possible for us, God will either
take away our sexual need or provide us with some other means for
sexual release, acceptable to Him. He will not leave us stranded, with
unsupplied need. And He will not let us be tempted with no way to escape.
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer (permit) you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that ye may be able to bear it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV)
Some couples may not be legally married, but they are "married in the eyes of God." Their relationships are stable, monogamous, and intended to be permanent. In many cases, such relationships are acceptable to God. No marriage ceremony is required by Scripture.
For some people, private solo masturbation may be an acceptable solution to sexual need. Nowhere is it prohibited in Scripture, even in the story of Onan, Genesis 38:8-10, in which God is displeased not by the "spilling of the seed," but by Onan's failure to impregnate the woman, as his father had commanded. Elsewhere, emissions of semen ("seed of copulation") are discussed, and they are no more important to God than merely touching a woman during her menstrual period. (See Leviticus 15:16-19). And masturbation seems to be endorsed indirectly by the following passage, which makes physical love for spouse the same as physical love for self. It is assumed and understood in Scripture that people have love for their own bodies.
"So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He
that loveth his wife loveth himself." (Ephesians 5:28 KJV)
In Matthew 19:5-6, Jesus teaches that the two married people become
"one flesh." Sex is acceptable for them because they are "one flesh." An
individual person is
already "one flesh:" himself.
So if sex with spouse is acceptable to God, then sex with self should also
be acceptable to
Him, at least under some conditions, unless you believe that sex is only
acceptable to God when it leads
to bearing children. And this belief is refuted by Proverbs 5:18-19, which
is a
clear endorsement of sex for pleasure, apart from reproduction.
"Let thy fountain (penis) be blessed: and rejoice with the
wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind (female
deer) and pleasant roe (female wild goat); let her
breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished
always with her love." (Proverbs 5:18-19 KJV)
So if you find yourself with feelings of sexual need, pray to the Lord and
ask Him what He wants you to do. Maybe He will
remove the need itself. Or maybe He will give you an acceptable
solution to the need. Either way, if you ask, He will provide for all your
needs, including your legitimate needs of the flesh.
