Blessings to you, the readers of this page, in Jesus Christ our Lord. May He guide you and protect you always.
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father
which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48 KJV)
Here, then, is a description
of perfect Christian sex, as set forth in
the Bible, God's instruction manual for our lives.
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be
one flesh." (Genesis 2:24 KJV)
Also . . .
"Nevertheless, to avoid fornication (sexual
immorality), let every man have his own wife
and let every woman have her own husband."
(1 Corinthians 7:2 KJV)
There is also the concept of "common law" marriage, or being "married
in the eyes of God." Whenever a man and woman give themselves to each
other exclusively, intending it to be a permanent relationship, they
are "married in the eyes of God." Nowhere in Scripture is any particular
marriage ceremony required of us.
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with
darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV)
"For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that
he hateth putting away (divorce):"
(Malachi 1:16a KJV)
As Scripture says, as one of the Ten Commandments . . .
"Thou shalt not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14 KJV)More generally, you have no sexual contact whatsoever outside your marriage. You and your spouse are "one flesh," not to be shared with others.
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be
one flesh." (Genesis 2:24 KJV)
"Let thy fountain (penis) be blessed: and rejoice with
the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind
(female deer) and pleasant roe (female wild goat);
let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be
thou ravished always with her love."
(Proverbs 5:18-19 KJV)
"For this cause God gave them up unto vile
affections: for even their women did change
the natural use into that which is against
nature."
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural
use of the woman, burned in their lust one
toward another; men with men working that which
is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompense of their error which was meet (due).
(Romans 1:26-27 KJV)
"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved,
let us cleans ourselves from all filthiness of the
flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear
of God." (2 Corinthians 7:1 KJV)
"Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to
uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put
apart for her uncleanness (menstrual period)."
(Leviticus 18:19 KJV)
"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be
fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth,
and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of
the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over
every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
(Genesis 1:28 KJV)
This commandment to multiply is somewhat moderated by the later
commandment that a man should provide "for his own," (1 Timothy 5:8),
in the sense that too many additional children would deprive the
earlier ones of needed resources. Thus birth control is sometimes
justified.
"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification,
that ye should abstain from fornication (Greek PORNEIA):"
(1 Thessalalonians 4:3 KJV)
Some people believe that PORNEIA includes all sex of any sort
outside of marriage, even for those who are not married, including
masturbation
and all forms of
pre-marital petting. I find no Scriptural evidence for that
belief.
The only Scripture that even remotely seems to prohibit masturbation is Genesis 38:9, part of the story of Onan. But here, his sin was not the spilling of the semen on the ground, but his failure to impregnate the woman God had told him to impregnate.
"And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came
to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he
spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to
his brother." (Genesis 38:9 KJV)
On the contrary, Scripture recognizes and accepts the fact that we love our own bodies. We are encouraged to love our spouse's body as we love our own.
EPHESISIANS 5:28-33 (KJV)
28
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He
that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth
and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his
bones.
31
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be
one flesh.
32
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and
the church.
33
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love
his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she
reverence her husband.
<><
So I find no Scriptural prohibition against masturbation, either alone
or with your spouse. Masturbation can be the "way to escape" from sexual
sin (PORNEIA),
as promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13.
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer (permit) you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that ye may be able to bear it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV)
In Roman Catholic tradition, masturbation is considered to be a sin; but
not in Scripture itself.
<>< <>< <><
Is your sex life perfect, as described above? Probably not. Mine isn't, either. But this is not surprising, since, as Scripture says . . .
"For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God;" (Romans 3:23 KJV)
So what should we do to make our sex life more perfect?
First, we should throw ourselves on the mercy of God, as the despised publican did in this verse from Scripture . . .
"And the publican, standing afar off, would not
lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote
his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner."
(Luke 18:13 KJV)
Then, we should ask God to give us what we need, according to
His will for us. As Scripture says . . .
"Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known unto God."
(Philippians 4:6 KJV)
Here is a suggested prayer we can use . . .
O Lord, Creator of the Universe,
I thank you for the many blessings You have given me,
Including the wonderful blessing of sex.
But I have fallen short in my use of sex,
And I have misused this gift from You.
I acknowledge my sexual faults, and am sorry for them.
Please be merciful to me, a sinner.
Lord, according to Your will, please change my heart
So that I will desire only those things that are
Pleasing to You.
And give to me everything I truly need
To live my life as You would have me live it.
In Jesus' holy Name I pray, Amen.
<><
May the Lord bless you as you move closer and closer to Him.
