Guidelines For Christian Sexuality

In general, Christians are guided in all matters by The Golden Rule and The Law Of Love, illuminated by the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.


                           The Golden Rule
       
      "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to
       you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."
       (Matthew 7:12 KJV)
       
                           The Law Of Love
     "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt
      love thy neighbour as thyself." (Galatians 5:14 KJV)

                         Illumination By The Holy Spirit
       
      "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will
       send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
       things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
       (John 14:26 KJV)

In addition, on any subject we should search the Bible for Scriptures which apply to that subject. Then we should ask the Lord to guide us in applying these Scriptures to the subject at hand.

       
      "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by
       bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of
       God." (Matthew 4:4 KJV)

Let me now share with you the "Guidelines For Christian Sexuality" which I have found by searching the Bible, applying the Golden Rule and The Law Of Love, and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Adultery

"Adultery" is defined as sexual intercourse between a married person and a partner other than his married spouse. "Sexual intercourse" is defined as heterosexual activity involving the penetration of the vagina by the penis. Adultery is strictly prohibited in both the Old and the New Testaments. (For Scriptures, search the KJV on "adultery.")

The "One-Flesh" Relationship

When a man and a woman are married, they become as one flesh in the eyes of God. Each partner has certain marital rights in the other partner; each partner has certain marital responsibilities to the other partner. The one-flesh relationship is cited in both the Old and the New Testaments.(For Scriptures, search the KJV on "one flesh.")

When Does Marriage Occur?

Marriage occurs at the moment a man and woman freely establish a one-flesh relationship with each other. No wedding ceremony is required by Scripture.

Almost Adultery But Not Quite

Any sexual activity whatsoever between a married person and a partner other than his spouse is a violation of the one-flesh relationship, although not as serious as true adultery, with actual penile penetration.

Bestiality

Bestiality is defined as sexual activity with animals. It is prohibited.

Rape

Rape is prohibited.

Incest

Incest is prohibited.

Divorce

Divorce terminates the one-flesh relationship. God hates "putting away," which is the KJV term for unilateral divorce. The only legitimate grounds for unilateral divorce of one partner by the other is PORNEIA. Scripture is silent on the subject of divorce by mutual consent.

Masturbation

I can find no clear prohibition of solo masturbation in the Scriptures.
