For Protection From Physical Harm

NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speak
it to you.  In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it is the same
as if I were actually praying for you at that moment.
(Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch 
them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)

                   "For Protection From Physical Harm"


                It happened twice within the last two days:
                I was exposed to danger, but not hurt,
                Although I might have very well been killed.
                And so I want to share my thoughts with you,
                About the ways He acts to keep us safe.

                     *             *            *

                The first thing I must say to you is this:
                Forget about the tragedies you hear,
                Of planes that crash and ships that break and sink,
                Of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and fires,
                And all the people hurt or killed in these.
                The Lord will rarely stop His universe,
                From acting in its predetermined way,
                According to His laws which govern it.
                So if the wing falls off, the plane will crash.

                     *             *            *

                A second source of danger comes from man,
                From evil people, trying to do harm,
                Or careless people, acting without thought.
                To every man the Lord has given life,
                He also gives the power to do harm.
                And this is called "free agency" by us,
                And it is necessary in His plan,
                For giving us the power to do good.
                So if the robber shoots you, you might die.

                    *              *            *

                But He will act to keep you safe from harm,
                Despite the many dangers all around,
                If you will place your total trust in Him,
                And listen closely when He speaks to you,
                And follow quickly when He pulls your hand.
                For He will warn you what you must avoid,
                And He will pull you safe away from harm.

                    *              *            *

                Now here are some examples how He works:
                The plane is set to crash: you do not board;
                The car is set to wreck: you do not go;
                Tornado passes through: you are not there;
                The robber lurks nearby: you change your path;
                The roof comes crashing down: you just had left;
                The bullet whizzes by: you just had moved.

                    *              *            *

                I pray that you take heed to this advice,
                And trust unto the Lord to keep you safe,
                And follow when He leads you what to do.
