Prayer 4 You
For Parents Contemplating A Divorce

NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speak
it to you.  In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it is the same
as if I were actually praying for you at that moment.
(Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch 
them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)

              
                 "For Parents Contemplating A Divorce"

            You think your spouse has changed, has gotten worse;
            You think that, sadly, you have grown apart;
            You think that you deserve another chance,
            For happiness, because we live just once.
            You think the children soon will be okay,
            "There's child support, and they still have a home.
            And they can visit Daddy every week."

                  *              *              *

            Dream on, and keep on thinking of yourself,
            And wake up years from now with sore regret.
            Your new love was no better than the first!
            Your judgment was no better than before!
            Your grown-up children are in therapy,
            And blaming you for messing up their lives.
            (I speak from pure experience with this.)

                  *              *              *

            And so I pray that you will think again,
            But better yet: stop thinking, start to pray,
            And ask the Lord to lead you in this thing.
            And be prepared to follow what He says.
            But listen to His voice, and not your own,
            And not the voice of Satan, whispering.
            I pray the Lord will give you what you need.
            I pray He leads you down the proper path.
            I pray the Lord will act upon your spouse,
            And lead your spouse to where he needs to go.
            If lust for someone else is at the root,
            I pray that He throws water on the fire.
            Remember, "As you give you shall receive."
            Your children: if you turn your back on them,
            The Lord will surely turn His back on you.
            In Jesus' name I pray for you, Amen.
