CHRIST, WHOSE GLORY FILLS THE SKIES - by Charles Wesley , 1707-1788
                                         Public Domain

                 Christ, whose glory fills the skies,
                 Christ, the true, the only Light,
                 Sun of Righteousness, arise,
                 Triumph o'er the shades of night;
                 Day-spring from on high, be near;
                 Day-star, in my heart appear.

                 Dark and cheerless is the morn
                 Unaccompanied by thee;
                 Joyless is the day's return,
                 Till thy mercy's beams I see;
                 Till they inward light impart,
                 Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

                 Visit then this soul of mine,
                 Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
                 Fill me, Radiancy Divine,
                 Scatter all my unbelief;
                 More and more thyself display,
                 Shining to the perfect day.

                     The Lord's Prayer

          Our Father, who art in heaven,
            hallowed be thy Name,
            thy kingdom come,
            thy will be done,
              on earth as it is in heaven.
          Give us this day our daily bread.
          And forgive us our trespasses,
            as we forgive those who trespass against us.
          And lead us not into temptation,
            but deliver us from evil.
          For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
            for ever and ever. Amen.

      I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
      Maker of heaven and earth:
      And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
      Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit;
      Born of the Virgin Mary,
      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      Was crucified, dead, and buried;
      He descended into hell;
      The third day he rose again from the dead;
      He ascended into heaven
      And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
      From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
      I believe in the Holy Spirit;
      The holy catholic church;     *
      The communion of saints;
      The forgiveness of sins;
      The resurrection of the body;
      And the life everlasting.

                             Amen.

                * Note: "catholic church" here means the entire body of
                  believers in Christ, not just one particular church.

Scriptures And Teachings

Doctrine Of The Trinity:

Father, Son, And Holy Spirit: All The Same One God

God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) are all the same one thing: The Lord God Almighty, Creator of the Universe.

The shamrock (above) illustrates the idea of the Trinity -- that in the same one God there are three divine beings: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. -- "God in three persons, blessed Trinity."

The Bible shows clearly that Jesus is God. It also shows that Holy Spirit is God. Therefore, God and Jesus and Holy Spirit are all the same thing, equal to each other.

JESUS IS GOD: PROOF #1

First, there is the Word, who is God, Creator of the Universe. So the "Word" and "God" are the same thing.

        JOHN 1:1-3 (KJV)

        1
               In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
               and the Word was God.
        2
               The same was in the beginning with God.
        3
               All things were made by him; and without him was not any
               thing made that was made.

Jesus, the Son, is the "Word made flesh." Thus, Jesus is also God.

              "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
               beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
               Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14 KJV)

Jesus said it clearly . . .

           "I and my Father are one." (John 10:30 KJV)

                               <><

JESUS IS GOD, PROOF #2

God is the creator of the universe, according to Genesis 1:1, John 1:3, and Revelation 4:11. Jesus is also the creator of the universe, according to Colossians 1:16 and Ephesians 3:9. Therefore Jesus must be God.

Speaking of God . . .

    "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."
     (Genesis 1:1 KJV)

    "All things were made by him; and without him was not
     anything made that was made." (John 1:3 KJV)

    "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power:
     for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are
     and were created." (Revelation 4:11 KJV)

Speaking of Jesus . . .

    "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that
     are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or
     dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created
     by him, and for him:" (Colossians 1:16 KJV)

    "And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
     which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who
     created all things by Jesus Christ:" (Ephesians 3:9 KJV)

                                  <><

And Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) is also God, who as Father, caused Mary to give birth to Jesus, the Son of God.

              "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When
               as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before
               they came together, she was found with child of the
               Holy Ghost." (Matthew 1:18 KJV)

So Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are the same thing: God.

Scripture links the three together:

              "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing
               them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
               and of the Holy Ghost." (Matthew 28:19 KJV)

              "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the
               Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are
               one." (1 John 5:7 KJV)

Jesus dwells within us, God dwells within us, Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) dwells within us: all the same thing.

       Romans 8:11 (KJV)

              "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the
               dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead
               shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that
               dwelleth in you."

                                  This is the Spirit of God dwelling
                                  in us, the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit).

       Romans 8:9 (KJV)

              "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be
               that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have
               not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."

                                  This is the Spirit of God as the
                                  same thing as the Spirit of Christ.

       1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)

              "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
               Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"

                              This is us as "temple of God," where
                              God lives, in the form of Spirit of God.

       Ephesians 3:17a (KJV)

              "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith;"

                             This is Christ living in us.

       Galatians 2:20 (KJV)

      "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but
       Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
       live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave
       himself for me."

                            This is also Christ living in us.

       1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)

              "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy
               Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are
               not your own?"

                    Here, we are temple of the Holy Ghost. Earlier
                    in 1 Corinthians 3:16 above, we were temple of
                    God. Thus Holy Ghost and God are the same thing.

So the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) are all the same one thing: The Lord God Almighty, Creator of the Universe.

ANALOGY IN MUSIC

In music, we can understand it like this. There is one melody for "Happy Birthday." Now suppose the National Symphony Orchestra plays their arrangement of it. That sounds like one thing. Now suppose the country artist Willy Nelson sings his version of it. That sounds like something else. Now suppose your child sings it to you. That sounds like something different from the first two. But they are all three the same song, merely different expressions of it. Likewise, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are different expressions of the same one Lord God Almighty, Creator and Owner of all things.

ANALOGY IN SCULPTURE

Consider the statue of Abraham Lincoln in Washington, DC. (I see this statue frequently, because I live here.) You can view it from the front, and you see one thing; from the back, something different; from the side, something different still. Yet it is all the same one statue!

Likewise, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are different expressions of the same one Lord God Almighty, Creator and Owner of all things.

For me, He is simply "Lord," in whatever expression He chooses to take.

Blessings to you in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Come up from the Fields, Father
Come up from the Fields, Father
Walt Whitman (1819-1892), Leaves of Grass, 1900.

1

COME up from the fields, father, here's
  a letter from our Pete;
And come to the front door, mother, here's
   a letter from thy dear son.

2

Lo, 'tis autumn;
Lo, where the trees, deeper green,
  yellower and redder,
Cool and sweeten Ohio's villages, with
  leaves fluttering in the moderate wind;
Where apples ripe in the orchards hang,
  and grapes on the trellis'd vines;
(Smell you the smell of the grapes on
  the vines?
Smell you the buckwheat, where the bees
   were lately buzzing?)

Above all, lo, the sky, so calm, so transparent
  after the rain, and with wondrous clouds;
Below, too, all calm, all vital and beautiful,
  and the farm prospers well.

3

Down in the fields all prospers well;
But now from the fields come, father, come
   at the daughter's call;
And come to the entry, mother, to the front door
   come, right away.

Fast as she can she hurries, something ominous,
  her steps trembling;
She does not tarry to smoothe her hair, nor
   adjust her cap.

Open the envelope quickly;
O this is not our son's writing, yet his name
   is sign'd;
O a strange hand writes for our dear son. O stricken
  mother's soul!
All swims before her eyes,flashes with black,
  she catches the main words only;
Sentences broken, "gun-shot wound in the breast,
   cavalry skirmish, taken to hospital,
At present low, but will soon be better."

4

Ah, now, the single figure to me,
Amid all teeming and wealthy Ohio, with all its
   cities and farms,
Sickly white in the face, and dull in the head,
  very faint,
By the jamb of a door leans.

"Grieve not so, dear mother," (the just-grown
   daughter speaks through her sobs;
The little sisters huddle around, speechless
 and dismay'd;)
"See, dearest mother, the letter says Pete will
soon be better."

5

Alas, poor boy, he will never be better, (nor
   may-be needs to be better, that brave and simple soul;)
While they stand at home at the door, he is dead already;
The only son is dead.

But the mother needs to be better;
She, with thin form, presently drest in black;
By day her meals untouch'd, then at night fitfully
   sleeping, often waking,
In the midnight waking, weeping, longing with one
  deep longing,
O that she might withdraw unnoticed, silent from life,
  escape and withdraw,
To follow, to seek, to be with her dear dead son.

Exhortation

Follow The Lord, As He Leads.

This is from a letter I wrote in reply to a question.
Follow the Lord As He Leads!

Hello xxx,

Thank you for the honor of asking my advice! I really don't know much about xxxxx, but I do know that the Lord will lead you STEP-BY- STEP to where He wants you to go. The secret is you must obey Him in the little things, and then He will give you more and more. Sometimes (usually) it doesn't make sense to you, what He is doing. You won't see the picture until all the pieces are complete. THEN you will say, "Oh! Now I understand why He did THAT!"

So how do you obey Him? How does He communicate to you? Sometimes He does NOT communicate directly to you. In this case, do the best you can to obey His will as you find it expressed in the Bible. At the very least, obey the ten commandments plus the "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and love thy neighbor as thyself" commandment. Then try to cultive the "Fruits of the Spirit." Try to be gentle, humble, slow to anger, quick to forgive, patient, meek, grateful. Ask Him to be with you, tell Him you love Him, tell Him that His love is more important to you than anything else. Pretty soon, He will make Himself known to you personally.

Be sensitive to that, listen for His distinctive voice. Then, do whatever He tells you to do, whether you understand "why" or not. Now, imposters (the evil one, you know) will try to confuse you with false messages. So recognize that the Lord will never tell you to do something that is contrary to scripture. So the Bible is your safeguard in this matter. Also, an imposter spirit will choke on his own tongue before he can utter the words "I know and declare that Jesus Christ is the risen Son of God and Saviour of the world." So if the voice that is speaking to you refuses to declare Jesus as Son of God, then do not listen to it.

One more word. Let HIM lead you, not yourself. Make yourself available to Him in any way He wants, then let Him tell you what to do.

Each of us must submit to something, even if it is only death. So why not go as high as you can go? Give yourself TOTALLY to the Lord, and let Him use you any way He wants. Don't question Him at all, once you are sure it is Him speaking. He is quite loving and reasonable, and He usually treats you better than you could have thought up for yourself!

May God bless you in your walk with Him.

Yours in Christ, Bill McGinnis

Prayer For You

"Go Ahead And Give Yourself To Christ"

NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I
       speak it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it
       the same as if I were actually praying for you at that moment.
       (Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch
       them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)

                Perhaps you are a Christian even now,
                You go to church and try to do your best,
                You try to put His teachings in your life,
                But still you do not feel that He is yours.
                You do not feel the closeness that you crave.
                If this is you, then say this prayer with me:
                     *             *             *
                O Lord, I want you closer in my life,
                I want you more to be a part of me.
                I want the best relationship with you,
                That anyone on earth could ever have.
                I know that, "as we give, we shall receive,"
                And so I now do give myself to you,
                In full completeness, holding nothing back.
                I'm yours, so you may use me as you will,
                And take whatever things you want from me.
                And now that I did give myself to you,
                I pray that you will give yourself to me,
                As bridegroom gives himself to his new bride.
                In Jesus' holy name I pray, Amen.

1. Divide the congregation into two groups, perhaps males and females or youth and adult. Then have one group ask the question, "Do you know Jesus?" and the other group answers, "Yes we know Jesus!" Then reverse the groups and repeat the process.

              Do you know Jesus?
              Do you know Jesus?
              Do you know Jesus,
              And the wonder of His love?

              Yes, we know Jesus!
              Yes, we know Jesus!
              Yes, we know Jesus,
              And the wonder of His love!

2. Then have everybody ask themselves the question, "Do we know Jesus?" and answer it, "Yes, we know Jesus!"

              Do we know Jesus?
              Do we know Jesus?
              Do we know Jesus,
              And the wonder of His love?

              Yes, we know Jesus!
              Yes, we know Jesus!
              Yes, we know Jesus,
              And the wonder of His love!

Blessings to you in Jesus Christ our Lord.
