The Lord, Himself, taught us to pray like this . . .The Lord's Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Source: Book Of Common Prayer, based on Matthew 6:9-13

This historic affirmation of faith comes to us from the early centuries of the Christian church. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Born of the virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The holy catholic church; * The communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen. * Note: "catholic church" here means the entire body of believers in Christ, not just one particular church.

The First Letter Of Paul The Apostle To The Corinthians 1:1 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's: 1:3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 1:5 That in everything you are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 1:6 Just as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 1:7 So that you come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 1:8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1:10 Now I beseech you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1:11 For it has been declared unto me of you, my brothers, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 1:12 Now this I say, that each of you says, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 1:14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 1:15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in my own name. 1:16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1:21 For after in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 1:24 But unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1:26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1:30 But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.Source: King James Clarified New Testament (KJCNT)
To Use The Power Of Your Spoken Words
More like this at http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/prayerindex.htmlNOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speak it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it the same as if I were actually praying for you at that moment. (Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.) "To Use The Power Of Your Spoken Words" You may not know this, but you have a power, A special little gift you got from God, To greatly make or break somebody's day, By what you tell them when they need to hear. For people are receptive to your thoughts, And ready to believe the things you say. * * * The Lord wants you to use this power well, And if you do, He then will give you more, Because you used it as He did intend. * * * So start today to use this power well, And once again, this rule you can apply: "Give unto others as you would receive." If they are feeling lonely, be a friend; If they have suffered loss, then give them gain; If they are in temptation, give them strength. Your words will cost you nothing but your time, Yet you are building treasure with the Lord. And when you need it most, He will repay. * * * In Jesus' name I pray these things, Amen. by William E. "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
This is considered by many people to be the greatest hymn in the English language. The poem is by Isaac Watts, and the music is the hymn tune HAMBURG, by Lowell Mason, based on the First Gregorian Chant. MIDI sequence by Bill McGinnis, attempting to present the original Lowell Mason arrangement.

WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS - by Isaac Watts, 1707 Public Domain When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o'er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. Amen. NOTES: Please don't let the unfamiliar phrasing cause you to miss the power of this hymn. It is well worth spending the time to get the meaning clearly. This poem has been called the "greatest hymn ever written in the English language." Isaac Watts revolutionized public worship in his time, and this is his crowning achievement. Similarly, the music is also superb, perhaps the most perfect hymn music ever written. Based on a Gregorian chant, perfectly arranged for four-part choral singing. Lowell Mason considered this to be perhaps his most important musical contribution. In my opinion, this is the arrangement which most perfectly captures what Lowell Mason was hearing when he worked on this song.
